This is engineer point of view, not admiral point of view. Dawn Lucius leaves Earth with incomplete briefings, a son named Stacean on the ground, and a ship that will not bring him home in the same century. The Kuiper object looked like a ‘meteorite’ on Earth telescopes, until a 2038 probe proved otherwise.
What he becomes later is not a ship name. The Star Map Draftsman is a Datheon-chosen role, and that is why three federations race to reach him first. White Crystal keeps the old men living. Dawn keeps asking how to get back.
